Sketches Created By 2nd Grade Classes for upcoming Human Sculpting Unit

Children in 2nd grade will be creating human sculptures in movement and began this unit by drawing 2-minute quick sketches of bodies in motion. We began by discussing where our bodies bend and what that looks like on paper. Children had to practice drawing only what they saw. It was a bumpy road at first, but quickly the children understood that they would have better success if they actually followed the rule......"only draw what you see....."

Cloth Collages Created by Ms. Fitzpatrick's Kindergarten class

Children in kindergarten used cloth, ribbons, yarn and lace to create a cloth collage. These are all such different compositions and each is very interesting. Some used many pieces, some overlapped, some used pieces that never touched one another. They all look fantastic!

Watercolor Paintings of Animals created by Ms. Mathur's Class

In 4th Grade children have been learning about the process of painting. Too often children paint like they draw and painting alone as a medium is not fully explored when this happens. I will go through this process with various different topics just so that it becomes ingrained in them to follow this path when painting. Children begin with painting the background shape without details. They create a background that uses the wet-on-wet technique to create a "far-away" look. the next class children use small detail brushes to add hair, eyes, claws, whiskers, etc.

2nd Grade Play Backdrop

I painted this backdrop for the 2nd grade play....some of the 2nd graders helped put in the initial shapes and I added the details. The work was inspired from an artist I found online named Renie Britenbucher. The mural was painted on two bedsheets donated by Murch parents
