Ms. Cutelis' collage obsession

I have been obsessed with these Fiskars squeeze punchers for a while now. I must have about 20 of them now and love making collages with them with my kids. This past week they were on sale at 40% off at Michael's and I again, bought a few to add to my growing collection. You too can enjoy these at home....here is a list of what you will need.....

First, you will need a few punchers. (They are found at Michael's...they are about 12-16$...make sure you take a 40% off coupon below)....I always google for the coupon online and print them before I go to the store.

Then, I get all the catalogues, magazines I have been getting in the mail and sit on the rug with my kids. They love punching just as much as I do...

Then you will need a gallery wrapped canvas...."gallery wrapped" just means that the staples are in the back.....I buy a 7 set 12x12 canvases at 19$. Again, use your coupon.

Last, you will need a flat brush and glossy Mod Podge glue. The glue will be used as a glue and a sealant. Meaning this will go under and over your cutouts...

Around the Corner for 5th Graders

After we finish designing our posters with a message about "Get Up and Move!" the kids will be doing a movie-making unit which will involve many aspects, two of them being flipbooks and claymation.

In trying to explore this media further I found a slew of videos on YouTube with claymation. I posted some of the most appropriate ones below.

On that note, I will be needing to borrow tripods from parents for this unit. If you have any you'd like to share with the 3 classes, please contact me?

Face painting at the Fall Fair!!! (OCTOBER 24TH)

For the fall fair I've volunteered to do face painting but I have no prior knowledge about this at all.....so of course, I went on you tube and sure enough there were tons of tutorials. I thought it would be fun for the kids to see some of these....very fun to watch the transformations. Hope to see you all at the Fall Fair!!!

1st Grade Pull Prints from Their Stamps

First I have to thank all parents who donated all the corks and made this project possible.

As you can see the corks were used as handles for our stamps. Each class pulled about 90-120 prints in 45 minutes. Each time they made a new print your child learned a little more about whether to apply more pressure, less pressure, more ink, or less ink to make their prints more successful. Next week we will be creating a class-wide project in which everyone makes a stamp and contribute to the whole.

Parents, please make sure your child has a sketchbook next week. They will be needing them to make initial sketches of their final designs.
