Storytelling Class Update

For the afternoon storytelling class (Fridays for 20 K and 1st graders) we have been creating props for the story Three Little Pigs. Children practiced various emotions that each character felt at different parts of the story while sitting in a circle. Some kids made teeth for the wolf using rolled tape, some kids rolled paper for the 'hair' and glued them on. This coming Friday kids will take turns playing each part and being the audience.

Note: I will also be ordering some finger puppets and table puppet theaters for future classes.

These are just some of the 5th grade masks. The artists learned:

* About varying ways to create texture using paper.

* The importance of symmetry in relaying our message to the viewer.

* Creating solid shapes such as cones and cylinders using paper, scissors and glue.

* The difference between visual and tactile texture.

5th graders are done with their elaborate 3d/textured animal mix masks.....I am trying to set up a time when all of them are able to pose for a picture with their masks on.......I will post pictures of each individual mask as well once I have all of them done.

5th Grade Mask Creations are on their way to being completed

Children in 5th grade are working on 3D masks. Children brainstormed everything from types of hair to head shape to eye and mouth design. I am working on teaching the children to use resources such as our brainstorming poster and other resources to help them create a better 'end product'. 5th Grade Explore many ways to create 'hair' using paper

The 5th graders are designing animal-inspired 3d masks out of 2d paper. This is part of our initial exploration for the unit and resource-building before we begin.....I am teaching students to gather data resources before embarking on a project as a way to create a better end product.
