1. What is your name, grade

Lucy, first grade (Ms. Werner)

2. What art media (materials) do you like to work in and why?

Markers, colored pencils, paint, and crayons. I like using a lot of color.

3. Where do you get your ideas for new art?

Nature--flowers, animals, plants--and monuments.

4. Who is your favorite artist and why?

Vincent van Gogh, because he had a lot of imagination, so it is beautiful artwork—and sometimes night is starry.

5. What has been the most exciting experience in art at Murch?

Getting to make clay bowls!

6. Tell us about the best piece of art you've ever made.

My best piece is really a series: pictures of Washington monuments and the cherry blossoms in spring.

Thought I'd pass this along...being a super creative idea and all

Parents Mike Hefner and John Wix have kindly offered to produce another thank you banner for the teachers! The one that they did last year is still hanging outside of the principal's office. If you'd like to participate, simply email a photo of your child directly to Mike at :mike@202design.com by 8pm this Sunday May 8th. Thanks Mike and John!! I love that banner it brightens my whole day every time I see it.

Zoe's artist grandma comes to visit with her AMAZING SCULPTURES

This is Zoe from Kindergarten. When we started our clay unit 2 weeks ago. She began talking about her grandma who is an artist. I told her to let her artist grandma know she was welcome to come share her craft with the class. Zoe apparently went back with my message and was able to set it all up in a week. Within a few days of my invite she was able to connect grandma, Karen Leighty and have her come to our class to share!

Ms. Leighty showed use several sized animal sculptures made from various mediums.
She placed her work on the tables for children to feel them.
Here she shares a bronze horse sculpture she had made.


This one if of a horse on the ground on its back. It looks like a metal sculpture, but we were told it was only painted to LOOK metal, yet it was clay.

In then end, Ms. Leighty showed the kids two ways to make a clay bowls; pinch pot and coil method. Notice she is using the Elmo projector allowing all kids to see fine details of these bowl creations.

1st Grade Community-and all classes work

All children in 1st Grade are working on a very huge project. They are all working together to create one community.

Here are the 'people' of this community. They will be paper mache-d and clothed within the next week.

These are trees trucks.
These artists are making tree tops.
...and roads.
....and the playground.

FREE Blog Arts Advertisement Invite to Murch Community

I would like to extend an invite up to 15 artists in the community to post a link to their website on the Murch Art Blog for a period of 3 months at a time. I am casting a wide net here when I say "artist"..........you can be in any creative field as long as it contains appropriate content for children 5th grade and under. This is a fantastic opportunity to have your work seen by the community seeing as we get about 300 hits on the site weekly.

To be considered please follow the instructions below:

1. All materials on your site much be kid-friendly (no nudity, profanity.....etc)

2. In an e-mail send me a link to your site and one image people will click to be railroaded to your site.

3. Also include in the body of your e-mail a 4-5 word title that will sit above your image/link

4. Include in the body of your e-mail your connection to Murch.

I can only accept 15 entries.....will delete this post when I have met my quota.
