Use PowerPoint to create easy visuals to help during transitions

Due to a tight schedule, it's important for kids to get into their routines, to have good routines that flow well and that kids do them just so. Here is a slide I use when kids are ready to line up. They push in their chairs, they throw away their wipes and then line up.

This slide is for hand cleaning. I often will prefer kids to first wipe their hands, THEN wipe the tables with the same wipes. That way their hands get the wipe while its clean.

Construction unit begins in 2nd grade with exploration of the cube

Each child is given 6 squares. We discuss what makes a square a square.

Kids use masking take to tape together the sides in the form of a T

Almost done!

Once done, they use masking tape to cover the slits on the sides.

Some chose to decorate them

Some chose to make them into gift boxes. Some make them into dice. Others made them into fortune tellers.

Here is one class' worth of cubes.

4th graders personalizing their sketchbooks

This takes time. We have 35 minute art periods. So the first class they just cut all sorts of personally meaningful images and saved them. The next class we decoupaged them on to our covers.
