Pre-K paint their sculptures metallic!!

All Pre-K kids painted their sculptures silver this week. They look amazing. The kids are also very proud of their work. Each sculpture took 3 classes. the first class we glued on large shapes together. The second class we added on "details", and the 3rd class, kids got to paint them silver. Children looked at abstract sculptures from various famous artists before we began.

I will have them on display as soon as I can find a place to display them.

1st Grade begin painting unit..

Children in 1st grade have begun their painting unit. Before we start painting anything, children are learning all ONE brush can do.....they used black and white paint on black paper and were asked to create different types of marks with the same brush. Most kids made accidental discovering such as the fact that black and white make gray, or that wet paint on wet paint mixes, but that wet paint on dry paint does not. Looking forward to a fun unit!

Ms. Levy's class QUICK 2-minute movement sketches

These are 2-minute movement sketches. Children will be creating a poster carrying a message about moving your body and daily fun exercise which will be hung around the school. I also wanted to encourage the kids to walk away from their pre-set recipe ideas about how a body is "drawn" and really look at what is happening with these shapes.

Mr. Welsh's Class Explores Printing

Children in Mr. Welsh's Kindergarten class explored printmaking this week. Children used blocks donated by Ms. Bogan and corks, cups and spools donated by parents to create their prints. Next week the kids will create a huge stamp using cardboard. The child's name is on the lower right hand corner. The letters KW follow it, short for "Kindergarten, Welsh".
