Starting choice in 4th grade

These are images of one class while exploring choice-based. What you will see are many things that make this transition feel right.
For example, boys that normally need to be reminded to stay on task are busy collaborating, exploring and creating 3d structures. When things failed, they brainstormed together to achieve their goals.

In that same class you will see another child using the offered visual resources to create a cartoon.

In that very same class one student who did not yet finish her 3d chair design gets help from another child who has already finished. They also go over various ideas of how to add a piece of structure in the larger space. The child at the end is using her iPad to look up visual resources online to help her in her drawing exploration.

This child chose to use the old pastels to create a landscape drawing in her sketchbook. She also used online visual resources for her inspiration.

This child chose a visual resources offered and practiced drawing faces.

This child used her iPad as a light table and directly copied an image she found online. Some art teachers might frown upon the direct copying of images, yet, as we discussed her drawing further she said she'd love to use the image to make a pillow by sewing. Therefore, next week I will demonstrate simple sewing techniques to allow her to further work with this image, of which she loves and is very proud of.
