1st Grade Mice Homes on Display at School

A few mice homes are on display in the second floor of the main school building. Please come see them.....they are a few feet from the art room. These homes made from simple recyclable items has inspired other children from other grades to also collect items and make homes outside the art room. projects like these are only possible thanks to the donations of Murch parents. If your mice home is not on display here, please feel free to come pick up your mice home before or after school anytime from the art room. Please continue to donate small items that would have otherwise end up in the trash such as spools, corks, broken toys, game pieces, etc.

1st Graders continue construction unit making mice homes

Here are two sample shoebox homes being created by one first grade team. Due to the lack of storage space and shoe boxes young artists are collaborating in making their mice homes. Although this might mean that ultimately only one child gets to take it home, it can be recreated at home with some very simple recycled items and some grown-up only hot glue gun.

1st Graders Begins Constructing Houses for Mice

In connection with 1st grade author study of Kevin Henkes' work, children in the art room will be making houses for mice. Each child will use recycled materials to create a house fit for a mouse.

In preparation, we looked at various images of other small houses as reference.
This one has 3 floors.
This one has a wrapping paper wallpaper and ribbon on the sides.
This one has 4 rooms.
This one has a curtain and decorated painted walls.
Here is an example of how children could use recycled materials to create a chair.

Below are images of children painting their homes. Due to the lack of shoe boxes for each child, children are working in pairs to construct a space fit for a pretend talking mouse.
