Supply List of Fall 2010 (grades Pre-K-5th at Murch)

It might be still a bit early but I have had some parents request my supply list for the fall.

Here it is:

1. One large T-shirt that you no longer need. If the sleeves are too long, please trim them. Have child's first name written visibly across the front. These t-shirts will be kept in the classroom and worn in art class each week.

2. Two-four sponges. Please place these in a bag labeled "art room" so they make it to me or drop them off in the room. Last year I used wipes. I am trying to be more "green", hence the use of sponges.

3. 2 boxes of nose tissues.....(this is not mandatory). Please write ART ROOM across the front so it makes it to me.

Help Deep Water Horizon Gulf Oil Spill this summer!!!

Hey young and grown up artists.....here is something I will be doing with my kids this summer. My kids will be making art to help the animal victims of the Deep Water Horizon Gulf Oil Spill. Donations details below image.

Artist Harley wanted to contribute to the cause and here is her picture. She is 11 years old and also lives in Manhattan Beach Ca. She loves Dolphins and often sees them when she and her Mother and Sister walk on the beach. It is 5"by 7" and is done on heavy bristol board. Each card is available for a $10 donation.

Each sketchcard on this blog is $10.00. The $10.00 is a donation to help the animal victims of the Deep Water Horizon Gulf Oil Spill. Every penny is donated. The two Non-Profits that are benefitting are The Institute for Marine Mammal Studiesand The International Bird Rescue Research Center. You can purchase a card if you donate directly to one of the non-profits and email me the confirmation and your address toripplesketches@verizon.net. The artist will mail you the signed card.

Gallery- 5th Grade 3D Animal Mix Masks

These are just some of the 5th grade masks. The artists learned:

* About varying ways to create texture using paper.

* The importance of symmetry in relaying our message to the viewer.

* Creating solid shapes such as cones and cylinders using paper, scissors and glue.

* The difference between visual and tactile texture.

Regina Holliday deserves a BIG hug and thank you....she came in yesterday and in one hour helped me straighten out my classroom.....She is an organizing WIZZZ! Love you Regina! ....My room has not looked this neat in ages!! You are what makes a school a feel more like a 'community'!!!

Bookbinding done.......they will be journal/sketchbooks instead

Children in 3rd grade have been learning all about bookbinding. I taught them the same lesson I got while in college finishing off a studio art major. They fold sets of paper and sew them together, then they attach the pages to a cover. The children were going to use these books to show off these fables they created, yet most of them, once they saw the end result preferred to turn them into sketchbook/journals instead.

I introduced them to an artist I LOVE.......who posts her own creative journal pages online, Judy Wise at http://Judywise.blogspot.com . They were very inspired and like Judy Wise, they used mixed media to decorate their covers. Parents, please feel free to watch videos on YouTube under the search 'bookbinding'...they will make wonerful summer projects.
