Getting to know each other in fourth grade

My amazing colleague, Ms. Tremblay and I wanted the kids to have an opportunity to get to know each other. This activity allowed for uniqueness, creativity and for each kid to share a little of themselves with the group.

These keys were used to create a 3d collage. Each new item symbolized something about themselves.

The next day we took them outside, still in their groups, so that each could choose one aspect of their work and tell a little about themselves to the group. But first, we practiced and reviewed what good listeners do....Good listeners face the talker, don't interrupt and ask relevant questions and make relevant comments.

Afterwards, students were given a design challenge....use only paper, tape and scissors to make a group sculpture with your group. Since the focus of our work will be on group art works and learning how to work with others this was a great activity to help them experience working together for a common cause.
