painting with 4th graders
Once they are done with a work, they fill in this form to share about their work. Basically asks them to title their work and to tell a bit more about it. The form also offers some possible words they might need to write their statements. The kids will have access to pencils and erasers to fill in these forms.

kínder collage unit-
With kindergartner I always start in the same place. Use precut shapes and teach them how to use the glue correctly, how to not waste. If I a using liquid glue in that same class I will go over how to wipe the brush on the edge of the cup, etc.
I let them make whatever they want at first although I will demonstrate some ways in which one could combine shapes to make a more complex subject. The kids, 75% of them at least, will copy whatever example you gave, and that is okay....
The second class I taught them how to fold the paper, trace a shape, any shape and cut it to make two identical shapes. This will be helpful once we need to make faces or butterflies or anything symmetrical for that matter.
Next, I teach them to make small colorful sprinkles over their work by cutting first lots of long, thing lines but then cutting sideways to create tiny little sprinkles. We made "ice creams" then used this technique to sprinkle over them. The kids loved them....the trick is to not make the ice cream too complex so that kids have enough time to smear glue and cut their sprinkles before class is over.
Order of activities :
* glue precut shapes. Provide scissors and see who uses to edit shapes as needed
* second day give them back their work and show them how to add smaller pieces to add "details", if you give examples, give varied examples so kids do not get stuck on one. Giving various examples allows them to see potentials where they are at.
* Third day have students fold paper and cut out a shape (emphasize imaginary shape so kids don't get stuck on it being a perfect circle). I teach them how to make multiple shapes via folding. Only have kids fold once at first and maybe hint that more identical shapes can be made if folded twice, yet, be mindful that kids might not be able to cut through 4 pieces of paper. Mine could not.
* Fourth day we made sprinkles. I created this easy ice cream image and copied it.....I taught them how to smear glue on where they'd like the sprinkles and how to cut the sprinkles. emphasize the words thin and make the steps nice and simple. Have them repeat the steps before sending them off to their chairs. I prefer liquid glue in cups with brushes over glue sticks.
* fifth day they get to work on a new paper and this time they are armed with all these skills ..... note the difference and see where the gaps are.

Day 3: Domino Adventures
Domino adventure
In 2nd grade and 4th grade we have been inspired by the work of domino artist, Lily Hevesh. Lily Hevesh is a the only world famous female domino artist. We started this unit exploring dominoes. Next, we practiced some more complex domino skills. We learned some science concepts such as chain reaction, velocity and gravity and also learned some math concepts such as parallel and how to build incrementally for ultimate success during toppling. Students use their personal devices to record either their creation process or their toppling of their dominoes on camera. Aside from the obvious math and science connections, student also learned to work in teams, resolve conflicts and discuss various possible approaches to building. What’s next? Well, depending on the students’ enthusiasm we might work on larger creations. We have also begun imagining the possibility of a schoolwide involvement in dominoes. painting with kindergarten
Explanation about the work being sent home:
Students in Kinder are doing a painting unit. We began by just painting using the color black. The next class we were given black and white and children began mixing black and white and we discovered that we can make gray. The next class we were given blue and yellow and learned how to make green. I emphasized the importance of rinsing the brush in order to keep our paint palette colors clean. Next, on the same paper, we will mix red and yellow to make orange, and the last day we will mix blue and red to make purple, also, on the same paper. Our final project will be to make a rainbow by ONLY using the primary colors.

Los estudiantes de Kinder están haciendo una unidad de pintura. Comenzamos pintando con el color negro. Day 1- Domino Adventures.
Day 1
We began our domino art unit exploring dominoes. Just letting the students try making what they all would initially try when exploring. This is essential in teaching, this allowance of time to play. Each time a set of dominoes fell, I'd stop and ask how could it have been prevented and they created a rule from that mistake. This was essential. It allowed kids to view their mistakes as stepping stones to new leaning.
